Parade, Fireworks, and More in Rockaway Beach

The 4th of July is a fun time to be down at the coast and Rockaway Beach is home to a fantastic line up of activities to keep the whole family busy. Normally a quiet beach town, this place is already starting to get a little busy for the holiday celebration that is coming. The fireworks show will get started at 10PM from the Wayside area, run by the local volunteer fire fighters the community hosts a huge fireworks show. The long beaches north and south of the town are perfect for setting up a beach fire and hanging out for the evening.

Additional Fourth of July Activities

A Bake Sale at the Lions Club Building starting at 9AM, there is always a good cookie, piece of pie or something else at these sales so check it out if you are walking around in the morning before the parade.

The Parade goes through downtown Rockaway starting at 11AM, the main road through town will be closed down and people do start finding their place to sit and watch the show about an hour before so plan ahead to get a good place to watch.
Rockaway Beach fire truck
7th Annual Firecracker Weiner Nationals One of the best activities in town gets started at 12:00PM at the Phyllis Baker City Park. These four legged hot dogs run fast, some crash hard, and one gets to proudly be named the champion of the dachshund races.

Be careful on the beach with fireworks as there are tons of other people out there. Make sure if you start a beach fire to properly put it out at the end of the evening, there is nothing worse then getting burned on the feet the day after fourth of july when going for a beach walk cause someone did not extinguish the coals.

The Rockaway Beach, Oregon fourth of July celebration is an absolute blast. There is tons to do for the whole family and if you have not stayed on the coast for a fourth of July family vacation then you should mark it down on your calendar for next year and come on down to the coast. The morning starts off with a traditional small town parade which has lots of candy being thrown out to the kids from different local companies and organizations that are participating and ends with a splash from the home town fire truck as they spray the hose into the air. This year was the 6th annual firecracker wiener dog race at the park in the early afternoon and was just hoot to watch these little dachshunds run in every direction and a few cross the finish line. Kids could participate in a treasure hunt and other activities during the afternoon down on the main beach in front of town and the day is capped off by a splendid fireworks show.

The city of Rockaway Beach does a fantastic job making the Fourth of July a family fun event. We grabbed chairs and sat at the wayside to be right in front of the firework show and it is just awesome to feel each explosion and watch them burst nearly above your head.

Here is where we sat just on the other side of the train station to watch the fire works and a few examples of the show below.

The Oregon coast is an area full of amazing wildlife with rich coastal habitats and wonderful forests. The towns that dot the coast line from North to South provide a unique experience for the people visiting and living in the area. When taking a walk in the neighborhoods along the coast you are just as likely to have a house cat run by you as you are racoons or a local family of deer saunter by. The following pictures were a few pictures of a group of deer that were passing there way between several houses. I have seen many other animals pass by the house over the last few months including a large owl which was unique. You dont get to experience this kind of interaction with wildlife living in the city and makes spending time at the coast very enjoyable.
