There is always tons of family fun activities, this year is no exception. There will be a fishing tank, gokarts, a Gyro ride, and other shows for the kids near the Lumbermen’s park. There is also a Fireworks display on Saturday night over the harbor. The train rides go back and forth between Garibaldi and the Rockaway Beach wayside, this is a fun way to see the scenic bay as you pass by the Three Graces and the barview jetty. Stop in Rockaway to check out the fun shops or walk on the sand and ride the train back later in the day.

Come enjoy this local festival for a good Oregon coast time. Stop and buy a crab or tuna from some of the local fisherman for a seafood dinner.

Parade, Fireworks, and More in Rockaway Beach

The 4th of July is a fun time to be down at the coast and Rockaway Beach is home to a fantastic line up of activities to keep the whole family busy. Normally a quiet beach town, this place is already starting to get a little busy for the holiday celebration that is coming. The fireworks show will get started at 10PM from the Wayside area, run by the local volunteer fire fighters the community hosts a huge fireworks show. The long beaches north and south of the town are perfect for setting up a beach fire and hanging out for the evening.

Additional Fourth of July Activities

A Bake Sale at the Lions Club Building starting at 9AM, there is always a good cookie, piece of pie or something else at these sales so check it out if you are walking around in the morning before the parade.

The Parade goes through downtown Rockaway starting at 11AM, the main road through town will be closed down and people do start finding their place to sit and watch the show about an hour before so plan ahead to get a good place to watch.

7th Annual Firecracker Weiner Nationals One of the best activities in town gets started at 12:00PM at the Phyllis Baker City Park. These four legged hot dogs run fast, some crash hard, and one gets to proudly be named the champion of the dachshund races.

Be careful on the beach with fireworks as there are tons of other people out there. Make sure if you start a beach fire to properly put it out at the end of the evening, there is nothing worse then getting burned on the feet the day after fourth of july when going for a beach walk cause someone did not extinguish the coals.

Enjoy a Long Walk

Who doesn’t like a nice walk on the beach during the summer. Even with a light cloud cover and slight breeze the Oregon coast is often still warm enough to enjoy a stroll on the sand without getting cold.

The Rockaway Beach pirate festival and treasure hunt is a unique Oregon coast event that is on its 4th year. This is a family fun event located in the middle of the town at the Wayside.

Rockaway Beach Pirate Treasure Hunt

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Rockaway Beach Pirate Festival Returns June 28th_ 30th at The New Oceans Edge at Rockaway Beach!

The Rockaway Beach Chamber of Commerce is proud to present its 4th annual Rockaway Beach Pirate Festival and Treasure Hunt in downtown Rockaway Beach. Join us for a weekend of entertainment sure to offer something for all ages. There will be pirate music, roving pirates, festival rides, and vendors.
Featuring succulent foods and hearty libations, vendors selling exotic wares, musical acts, performances, scavenger treasure hunt, and games to challenge your skills; all of this will be served up in an atmosphere that would make the pirates of old feel right at home.
This year we will be once again featuring the vicious pirate rabble of PDXYAR (www.pdx.yar.org). Their crew is an ornery lot and likely to get into fights, with both fist and blade, with each other when they aren’t pleasing the crowd with rousing sea shanties and tales of yesteryear on the high seas. Highlighting their performances will be a cannon firing and black powder small arms show each day, while on Saturday night grab a seat and lend an eye (the one without the patch) as they put on a bewildering display of fire dancing!

We are currently accepting reservations for vendors, who can reserve a space for $75.
We are also asking for any volunteers to help with this amazing event.

The Candy Cane Express is about to get going again for the Christmas holiday season of 2012. Running on December 8, 9, 15, and 16th this year, this is a fun train ride along Tillamook bay. The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad trains are a classic look back at the trains that transported goods and people across the country. These relics are a way to not only learn about the history of the coast, but the chance to live it by taking a ride. The ride leaves three times per day from Garibaldi at 1PM, 3PM, and 5PM. The train rides costs $20 for adult passengers and $15 for children.

The train gets decorated with lights, Christmas trees, and more holiday decorations. It is recommended to wear a set of warm clothing due to the likely hood of inclement weather during the winter, but regardless upon your arrival in Rockaway Beach, you can take some time to check out the shops such as the frugal crow or grab a bite and drink over at Rick’s Roadhouse. The train stops off right in the heart of town at the way station, so a quick walk on the beach can also be in order pending the weather for the day. Keep your eyes peeled on the train ride and you will enjoy the wonderful three grace’s rock out croppings just North of Garibaldi.

Santa will be riding on the train and passengers of all ages are welcome to visit with him. Everyone will get a little bag of goodies with candy and cookie for the ride.

This is a fun family activity and a way to enjoy this part of the coast from a different perspective. Instead of zipping by through the highway in a car, enjoy the slow ride and take in the beautiful sights of the bay, birds, and trees along the hills.
