Located in the middle of the quiet town of Wheeler, Oregon the Tsunami Grill is one of the best options for lunch or dinner in the local area. Situated right on the Nehalem bay / river, they have seating options inside and out, with amazing views of the bay estuary. Wheeler is a small town in between Nehalem and Rockaway Beach, along the Oregon Coast highway. There are several antique shops in the town to browse with cool and unique stuff. The public boat launch for the town of wheeler is next door and stays busy during the spring and fall salmon runs making for always something to watch when sitting out on the deck enjoying a cold one. There is a good chance to watch an angler catch a chinook or coho salmon while eating out on the back deck overlooking the water as the Tsuanami Bar Grill is located right in front of a known fish holding spot.

Serving traditional American favorites like a cheeseburgers and coast specialties like clam chowder make it a perfect fit for most groups. If you like Asian inspired food than certainly consider checking out the rice and BBQ pork dish, it is phenomenal and comes with a side of veggies. The spring rolls and spicy dipping sauce are a personal favorite, especially when you just need a little appetizer to snack on with a glass of beer or wine.

The pricing is reasonable for a place on the coast with a great view and good food. The service is excellent, always kept our drinks full and food came out at an acceptable pace.

Grab a drink in the bar or sit out on the patio deck looking at the river and just relax.

Located right on the Oregon coast highway in between Nehalem Oregon and the turn off to downtown Manzanita, the Bunk House restaurant is a cozy place to get breakfast, lunch, or, dinner. The decor is laid back with an obvious family friendly, local focus. During the cooler months the wood stove in the corner of the dining area is kicking out copious amounts of warm. Water served in jelly jars with handles and local art work decorates the walls.

We went for breakfast, which is advertised as an all day options. All the standard Americann breakfast options are available on the menu. The omelettes come with a couple of large pancakes, they make a great Denver omelette. The presentation of the food is lacking and so if you are looking for a fine dining experience this is not the place, but the servers were excellent and kept drinks full and deliver the food with a smile.

the menu at the bunk house restaurant

After paying for our breakfast we noticed a tray of very large cinnamon rolls had just come out of the oven. At $2.50 a piece these are certainly an extra to consider. We grabbed one for the road and parked and ate it overlooking the ocean view from Neahakanie mountain.

Overall the Bunk House delivers good food at a fair price and a great option for an early morning meal if the wait at Wanda’s Cafe down the road is too long or the drive to cannon beach too far.

The Rogue Ales Public House is an excellent place to grab a beer and basket of fish and chips or any of the other delicious items off the menu. We had the Halibut fish and chips and the Albacore Tuna fish tacos which were both excellent. The Rogue Ales Public House is located right in the middle of SW Bay Blvd. just before the 101 bridge that crosses the bay./ There are many shops and eateries right along Newport Bay on Bay Blvd. and worth a short walk before or after your meal if you are just stopping in for eats and a drink from a day at the beach. Parking can be tough on a busy weekend, but there is plenty of spaces and we only had to walk a block and a half from our parking spot to get some lunch. We were given a free beer sample when we sat down before we ordered our meal and drink.

Grab an appetizer and a beer or eat a full meal here next time you are in Newport, Oregon.

Address: 748 Southwest Bay Boulevard, Newport, OR 97365 Check out the menu http://www.rogue.com/locations/pdfs/Menu-BAY.pdf

The pizza at Upper Crust Pizza in Rockaway Beach is excellent, the pie comes with lots of toppings and they are made of good quality ingredients. If you are staying Rockaway Beach and looking for a quick meal that you can order and pick up or a place to go and sit down and have a nice meal then Upper Crust Pizza can certainly do the trick. They also have a Gluten free pizza for people that are focused on specific diets it can be hard to find the right places to eat at the coast, but they have it all for you here.

The menu is full of specialty gourmet pizza options and there is also several seafood pizzas like the Oyster Bed and the Shrimp Delight. There is traditional pizzas as well like a simple Pepperoni or Hawaiian and dinner and side salads or a bread basket to go with your pizza. Upper Crust does not only serve pizza they have some additional meals such as the Halibut Platter and a Burger with tater tots to name a few. My last pizza here was a pepperoni and sausage and it was delicious as the other selections have been. They open up for dinner starting at 4PM and close at 9PM during the week and are open until 10PM during the week. They are located right on HWY 101 just North of the main part of town.

Check the website for specific details about the days that they are open based on the season and to answer any other questions you may have about this excellent pizza parlor on the Oregon Coast. http://uppercrustpizza.blogspot.com/

If you want a cozy place to eat a good breakfast in Rockaway Beach the Whale Spout does the trick. With a gas stove in the corner and an espresso machine behind the counter this is the place for a good cup of coffee and warm reprieve from a brisk morning walk on the beach. Located right in the middle of town the Whale Spout is perfectly beach themed inside with lots of fish, birds, and other sea creature replicas mounted on the walls including a huge hammer head shark. The breakfasts are good portions, but be prepared to wait to eat on a busy weekend. I have eaten at the Whale Spout in the middle of the week with only one or two other tables occupied and received my food very fast and have also been the 2nd to last table getting seated on a Sunday at 10AM and not received food for nearly an hour and had to get up and ask for a coffee refill myself twice. The food is priced well and again the portions are great and will fill you up for any activities you are planning on doing whether it is a hike up Neahakanie mountain or just a day of lazy antique browsing at the shops in the surrounding cities. My personal favorite is the Rockaway Potatoes which is a large scramble with tasty tatters, eggs, Tillamook cheese, choice of meat and few other veggies such as onions and bell peppers. The Pancakes are large and fluffy. We have tried there specials a few times and been pleasantly surprised as well from a blueberry compote on top of the pancakes to a breakfast burrito. The best thing in my opinion about the Whale Spout is the fact that they have an in house espresso machine and can serve up your custom coffee favorite or just a enjoy a good cup of the house blend, which tends to be a better coffee than the usual breakfast restaurants along the coast. Despite our encounters with some slow service the staff was very nice and apologetic and we would recommend the Whale Spout to anyone looking for a good breakfast in Rockaway Beach.
